Registration is now open for a 4-day joint workshop combining Raising Calculus to the Surface and The Vector Calculus Bridge Project. Contingent upon NSF funding, the workshop will be held June 18-21 at Concordia University in Irvine, California. The curriculum for Raising Calculus and The Vector Calculus Bridge Project nicely complement and support one another: They both approach multivariable/vector calculus from a geometric perspective and utilize group-based activities to provide opportunities for students to discover and explore underlying mathematical concepts. Participants in the workshop will
- Investigate multivariable and vector calculus topics from a geometric viewpoint using multiple representations,
- Gain experience with the activities from the student perspective,
- Learn and use techniques which help bring student ideas into the classroom through small-group and whole-class discussion,
- Discuss how to integrate the Raising Calculus and Vector Calculus Bridge materials into their existing course.
Workshop Dates: Tuesday, June 18th (8:30am - 4:30pm), Wednesday, June 19th (8:30am - 4:30pm), Thursday, June 20th (8:30am - 4:30pm), Friday, June 21st (8:30am - 4:30pm)

Anticipated NSF Support
If funded by the NSF, the workshop will be able to provide 20 to 24 participants with support for local expenses, some travel, and instructors materials including a classroom kit of 4, 8, or 12 surfaces. We anticipate hearing from the NSF on or around Math 15th. Register now, but please wait to make travel accommodations until we hear about NSF support.
If more instructors register for the workshop than can be supported with NSF funds, we will keep a waiting list and notify people if/when spots become available. We may have to limit support to one instructor per institution.

Registration and Cost: Registration is now open to instructors of multivariable or vector calculus at the high school or undergraduate level. The workshop registration fee is \$200 free, pending NSF support.
Workshop participants can also purchase material kits (described here) if additional kits are needed. Kits contain surfaces, contour maps and coordinate grids, measurement tools, dry erase markers, and the instructors guide. Kits are made by students at Winona State University and can be sold to workshop participants so that they can implement the curriculum covered in the workshop. Kits are priced at \$185 (small kit, 4 surfaces), \$305 (medium kit, 8 surfaces), \$425 (large kit, 12 surfaces) or \$545 (extra large kit, 16 surfaces).
Lodging and Local Accommodations: Pending NSF support, we anticipate participants will stay in summer housing at Concordia University in Irvine in "Quad" rooms . Dining services will be provided through Concordia University. Additional information about these details will be posted soon (on or around May 15th) and sent to registered participants.
Flights and Transportation: The nearest major airport to Concordia University is John Wayne Airport [SNA]. It is 6.5 miles away from Concordia University and is the most convenient. Los Angeles International Airport [LAX] is 45 miles away and offers several transportation options. (Round trip on Super Shuttle between LAX and Irvine is about \$55.
